But my Hispanic students so dealy love "football" (soccer) that I actually tuned into the World Cup and discovered that I really like the game. I know nothing at all about it -- but it's far more exciting than baseball (yawn, I'm asleep - why would anyone want to watch baseball?) and you can actually tell what's going on in soccer, unlike our football where guys just jump on each other and I lose sight of the ball. The guy who teaches next door to me is orginally from Italy and he coaches our teenage soccer team (and they win more than they lose) so next year I'll have to take in his games (they aren't allowed to play on our football field because the district claims they will tear it up -- they are forced to play in the public parks).
